Dear Club Safeguarding Officer and Club Officials
Safeguarding our young players is everyone’s responsibility, and helping them to play and enjoy the game safely and increase their access to rugby is part of our core purpose.
Ensuring that rugby can be played by all in a safe and fun environment can be quite a challenge in some settings, so this audit is a tool for you to undertake a “gap analysis” at your club, with the assistance of the County/CB Safeguarding Manager, to help identify the areas where you may need some support or guidance and so that the CB Safeguarding Manager can discuss and share examples of good practice both from your club and from other clubs in the CB.
If we work together, we can ensure that rugby stays as the sport of choice for young players everywhere - leading the way in terms of safe and fun participation.
Remember the Code of Rugby (T.R.E.D.S):
Teamwork - Respect - Enjoyment - Discipline - Sportsmanship
Let’s keep the “E” in TREDS:
“Enjoyment is the reason we play and support rugby union. We encourage players to enjoy training and playing. We use our sport to adopt a healthy lifestyle and build life skills. We safeguard our young players and help them have fun. We enjoy being part of a team and part of the rugby family. We play to win but not at all costs and recognise both endeavour and achievement. We ensure that the wellbeing and development of individual players is central to all rugby activity.”
Enjoy the game. This is rugby.
